Sun shines bright after drenching Capitaliites in flood

City Notes

By Uzma Zafar

After raining for Cats n' Dogs all night of Wednesday and all through Thursday, flooding the entire Capital and in fact, breaking a 50 year record in this regard, recreating the 23rd July 2001 flood scene with triple impact, sending everyone back to Stone Age with power failure, this Friday came as a normal day with the sun first merely peaking out of the clouds, scared that the people would curse it for not stopping the rain a day earlier and then, making a full impact! The sun, in fact, shone bright in the Capital after drenching the Capitaliites in flood a day earlier!

The rain that kept falling all through Thursday, was long forgotten as well along gone was the memory of the flood a day earlier, this yesterday, for the streets of the Capital had no traces of murky water, whatsoever, due to excellent underground draining system in the city. That's the very beauty of Islamabad! Had it been any other city, the flood would've gone for days and days! Thursday might've come as a difficult day for the ones living in posh sectors this time like F-10 and F-11 where rain kept pouring with varying intensities, but Friday the sun made it's entry marking it's presence and reminding us all that it was but, July after all!

Like 23rd July 2000, 30th July 2010 would also be written down in the floods' history of the Capital. Both days were pretty scary, especially because of the non-stop rain, growling clouds and at the end of the day, power failure as water had entered one of the main feeders of IESCO. The power failure that occurred at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, was fixed by around 10:45 a.m. this Friday at F-11 sectors while F-10 sectors remained plunged in the dark for many hours after that even, leading to water shortage as well!

But the good thing to note from the rainfall is that the dams have been filled up to the brim which calls for no load-shedding in the coming days! Besides, though the sultry son has brought back the summer spell which was momentarily conveniently forgotten by us; the Capitaliites, but the water shortage has been covered, we have got respite from the hot summer weather and the sun has given us a new beginning while the Mother Nature has taught us a lesson that expect the unexpected!
