Govt to set up 60MW power project in Khuzdar

ISLAMABAD—Private Power and Infrastructure Board (PPIB) has decided to
setup 60 MW power project in Khuzdardistrict to provide reliable power
and improve voltage problems of the area.According to official sources,
the cost of the project is estimated to be US $ 50 million and will be
located between Khuzdar and Bhagbhana.
Sources said the project will be implemented under private sector
through International Competitive Bidding (ICB) so that there could be
transparency and a fair competition. They said the efforts of PPIB in
facilitating the privateinvestors for establishing power plants aimed at
addressing the short, medium and long term power requirements of the
country and to work on a fast track basis.
Sources said, out of the seven site hydel projects totalling 1, 800 MW,
adding, five projects were already conducting their feasibility studies
after issuance of Letters of Interest, while extension in Performance
Guarantee submission was required for 245 MW Mahl Project and 458 MW
Karang Project.
In order to facilitate hydropower in the country, an extension of one
month in submission of Performance Guarantee for these projects was
already approved by the Board for these two projects. Sources said the
progress of the hydel power projects being processed in the country will
improve the hydel and thermal mix of power generation and provide a more
environment friendly source of energy.
It is pertinent to mention here that in order to strengthen the
financial position and organizational structure of PPIB, the Prime
Minister has approved funding of Rs 300 million for the next five years
for the Board. |
